The University of Houston’s Student Business Services (SBS) and Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid hosted two mid-semester webinars to help students prepare for spring enrollment. The sessions aimed to clarify common financial questions and support student success.
“We want students to understand their fee bills, scholarships, and financial aid,” said Kevin Burns, UH Bursar. “These webinars give them a starting point to check on things they might not yet have figured out.”
While open to all students, the webinars primarily target freshmen and transfers.
“New students are often focused on classes and may not be familiar with the administrative side of college,” said Burns. “We’re here to help them navigate that.”
Topics included reading a fee bill, understanding installment plans, refund timelines, and grant and scholarship eligibility. Speakers included Emily Messa, Senior Associate Vice President for Administration; Ben Montecillo, Executive Director of Student Financial Aid; and Burns.
Unlike previous town halls, these webinars focused exclusively on financial topics.
“We’re trying to remove obstacles that could prevent students from continuing their education,” Burns said.
