Student Orientation Leader Role 

Student Orientation Leaders play an integral role in the success of all orientation programming by welcoming new students and their families to the University of Houston with a transformational Orientation experience.
 
As a Student Orientation Leader, you have a chance to make an impact on the next generation of University of Houston students and their families and supporters. Student Orientation Leaders are students with a passion for the University of Houston and a desire to aid incoming students and their families in making a transitional process a transformative experience.  

As a Student Orientation Leader, you will be able to: 

  • Help incoming Coogs build connections to their peers and affinity to the University of Houston  
  • Ease the transition of these incoming Coogs’ family members and supporters by providing your anecdotal experience and sharing campus resources
  • Assist New Student Programs with executing orientation in all aspects including preparation and logistics  
  • Develop as a leader and sharpen professional skills  
  • Become part of a community and form meaningful relationships

Qualifications  

  • Must be a current University of Houston undergraduate student and returning to the University of Houston for Fall 2026.
  • Must be in good academic and student conduct standing with the University of Houston.
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA. 
  • If planning on registering for Summer 2026 classes, the classes must be asynchronous to accommodate work schedule.

Mandatory Dates

Dates are subject to change. The team will be notified with as much advance notice as possible. Scheduled dates include, but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to participate in a weekly, mandatory training every Friday from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM starting February 6th - April 24th (excluding Spring Break). 
  • Must be able to attend the full on-campus NSO Intensive Training and Team Retreat from May 17th - May 22nd.
  • Must be able to participate in all summer orientation dates - weekdays from May 15 - August 12 (excluding Memorial Day, Emancipation Day, and June 29th - July 7th).

  • This is a paid position - $12.00 per hour
