The New Grand Challenges Forum encourages students to think critically, discuss openly

This class is an introduction to the past 150 years of American life. We will investigate
topics as diverse as labor strikes, immigration, beauty culture, popular music, war
and protest, highways, illegal substances, gender ideas, and the beef industry. We
will also pay close attention to what historians call the “growth of the modern state.”
Finally, this class will teach you to read and write like a historian: with care and
creativity.

offered in both English and Spanish and are available in person as well as online

Check Europe off your Bucket List with the F.E.E.T Scholarship!
The Faber-Economon European Travel Scholarship (F.E.E.T.) is an award specifically
designed to introduce Honors students to Europe. Made available through the generosity
of two Honors alumni, Hanneke Faber and Aris Economon, the goal of the F.E.E.T. scholarship
is to provide Honors students who've never been "across the pond" the chance to visit
Europe without having to enroll in classes or take time off from school. Scholarship
recipients will receive airfare to/from Europe, a 3-week Eurail pass and a €1,000.00

Honors College Travel Scholarships
The Honors College Travel Scholarships application is open again! Travel with Honors
from Washington, D.C. to Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland. Students participating
in an Honors faculty-led learning abroad or learning away program or Honors students
participating in a UH faculty-led or nonaffiliated program may apply for funding opportunities,
regardless of financial need. No formal acceptance for your planned trip is required.

Volunteers Needed - Participatory Defense
Participatory Defense is a community powered program that supports people facing criminal
charges. Volunteers help families understand the court process, create support materials,
and work together to impact case outcomes and challenge inequities in the justice
system. We are looking for compassionate & reliable people interested in writing,

Kscholastic is currently hiring In-Person Academic Tutors, with an urgent need for
tutors in STEM subjects (Math, Science, Physics, Chemistry, etc.) and Latin to support
our K-12 student base across the Houston area. We are looking for motivated individuals
who possess not only deep subject matter expertise but also exceptional communication
and interpersonal skills. Ideal candidates are highly organized, reliable, and demonstrate
genuine enthusiasm for teaching. Crucially, tutors must be able to explain complex
concepts clearly, adapt their teaching style to diverse learning needs, and foster
a positive, encouraging learning environment. This role requires in-person tutoring
in the Houston area, so candidates must have a personal vehicle for transportation.

- Honors College Learning Abroad Opportunities
The GalápaGo! Research-Based Learning Abroad Program involves spending approximately one month supporting faculty-led research projects in the Galápagos Islands. To prepare for this immersive experience, students will be required to enroll in BIOL 4302 GalápaGo! Research Based Learning Abroad for the spring semester where they will be studying and discussing the theoretical and experimental background of these projects. Additionally, the Galápagos Islands will be used as a case study to explore key topics in geology, evolutionary biology, history, and conservation. This Global Bioethics: Engaging Rome with the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics & Human Rights
learning abroad trip is designed to engage students with critical issues in bioethics
and medical humanities from a global, cross-cultural perspective. We are collaborating
closely with our partners at the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights, supported
by the School of Bioethics at the Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum and the Faculty

Freedom of Conscience in Central Europe: Germany, Czech Republic, Poland
This trip is a cultural tour of central European cities— Berlin, Munich, Prague, and
Krakow highlighting historical and cultural landmarks. It includes engagement with
figures of political courage like Vaclav Havel, Martin Luther, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer,
and visits to sites such as the Berlin Wall, Munich’s medieval castles and cathedrals,

Science in the American Democracy - Washington D.C
A unique opportunity to explore the intersection of science and society in our nation’s
capital. Led by Dr. Rita Sharp. This trip, will lead students to visit Washington,
D.C.'s renowned memorials and museums, tour the National Institutes of Health, Frederick
Douglass National Historic Site, Arlington National Cemetery and many other landmarks.

2026 Douglass-O'Connell Global Internship
The 2026 Douglass-O'Connell Global Internship empowers future leaders through cultural
exchange, leadership, and global impact. Douglass-O'Connell Global Interns will spend
eight weeks in Dublin, Ireland, where they will attend lectures on the history of
social change in Ireland, participating in extracurricular and networking activities,
and interning with a host company that aligns with their skills and career goals.
Applicants must be a current undergraduate freshman-junior, possess a minimum 3.0
GPA, be a U.S.citizen, U.S. National, or permanent resident, and be Pell Grant-eligible.

Coastal Sciences Doctoral Fellowship - University of Southern Mississippi
The University of Southern Mississippi School of Ocean Sciences and Engineering is
offering graduate fellowships to prospective students seeking a Ph.D. in their coastal
sciences graduate program. These competitive fellowships intend to support the recruitment
of graduate students in coastal and marine science who demonstrate scholarly promise.
Candidates must contact potential faculty advisors in the Division of Coastal Sciences
to discuss their research and educational interests and must identify a faculty sponsor
prior to submitting a fellowship application. Students will receive a $28,500/year

2026 Boren Awards
The Boren Awards fund the intensive study of language and culture abroad in locations
that are critical to U.S. national security. Undergraduate scholars and graduate fellows
have the option to either apply for a Regional Flagship Language Initiative or self-identify
their own study program. Boren Scholars can receive up to $25,000 and fellows up to
$30,000 in awards. Recipients are eligible for exclusive opportunities and preferential
consideration for federal government jobs. All applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18
years or older at the time of the national application deadline, and remain matriculated
in a degree program at a U.S. post-secondary institution for the duration of their

Fulbright UK Summer Institutes
The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are three- to four-week programs for US undergraduate
students to explore the culture, heritage, and history of the United Kingdom while
experiencing higher education at a UK university. There are six participating universities
with different focuses on a specific historical, cultural, or subject-related theme.
Applicants must be US citizens with a passport, have a minimum 3.6 GPA, and have at
least two years of undergraduate study remaining after completion of the program.

2026 Truman Scholarship
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation awards merit-based scholarships to college
students who plan to pursue careers in government or elsewhere in public service.
Truman Scholars receive up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, participate
in leadership development activities, and have special opportunities for internships
and employment with the federal government. An eligible applicant must be a full-time
junior-level student at a four-year institution pursuing a bachelor's degree during
the 2025-2026 academic year, in the upper quarter of their class, and a U.S. citizen.
A competitive applicant has an extensive record of public and community service, has
outstanding leadership potential and communication skills, and is committed to a career

2026 Sumners At-Large Scholarship
The Sumners Foundation is offering the At-Large Sumners Scholarship to rising juniors
with 4 semesters remaining in their undergraduate work. Scholarships are up to $40,000
paid in $10,000 increments in spring and fall semesters for the junior and senior
year in an accredited college or university in Texas or Oklahoma. Sophomores in their
second semester in Spring 2026 are the ideal candidate. A minimum 3.5 GPA is required
and must be maintained to retain the scholarship. Eligible applicants must be a U.S.

2026 Undergraduate Research Day - Call for Submissions
Undergraduate Research Day, hosted each spring by OURMA, brings together hundreds
of visitors to celebrate the work of undergraduate researchers across all disciplines
who showcase their work in poster presentations. Poster submissions are now open for
the 21st annual Undergraduate Research Day, which will be held on April 9, 2026, in
the M.D. Anderson Library. Any currently enrolled UH student or fall 2025 graduate
who conducted a mentored research project since spring 2025 is welcome to submit a
faculty mentor-approved poster. Please read all requirements on the presenter information

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Santa Fe Institute Undergraduate Complexity Research Program
The Santa Fe Institute (SFI) Undergraduate Complexity Research (UCR) program is a
10-week residential experience in complexity science research. Students can select
from a menu of projects or develop a project in collaboration with their mentor(s).
Through a series of seminars and workshops, students enhance their skills as researchers
and prepare for the next steps in their academic and professional journeys. Students
will receive a $7,000 stipend over the course of the program, along with free housing,
meals, and travel to and from SFI. Applicants must be graduating in December 2026

MD Anderson UPWARDS Summer Program
The MD Anderson UPWARDS Summer Program is designed with the objective of fostering
greater enthusiasm for biomedical graduate programs and the cancer research workforce.
Participants will take part in a paid ($7,200 stipend), full-time, on-campus summer
research experience at MD Anderson underneath a faculty mentor in their lab. Participants
will gain hands-on research experience, participate in didactic coursework and training,
and receive mentoring for future academic and professional pursuits. Additionally,
participants will attend scientific lectures, seminars and career development events,
and will have the opportunity to present their research at the end of the program.

MD Anderson Therapeutics Discovery Division Summer Program
The MD Anderson Therapeutics Discovery Division (TDD) Summer Program allows students
to work in a biotech-like environment where cross-functional research aims to discover
and develop novel therapeutic agents that benefit patients. Participants will work
on projects that bridge industry and academia in a fast-paced environment along with
scientists from various disciplines and backgrounds. Eligible undergraduate applicants
must be continually enrolled in an undergraduate program with good academic standing.

Undergraduate Research Focused on Cancer Genetics & Epigenetics
The Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis (EMC) along with partners
in the Departments of Genetics and Pediatrics-Research, holds a 10-week, National
Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute-sponsored, Summer Program in Cancer
Research (SPCR). This program provides an authentic research experience for outstanding
undergraduate students considering careers in biomedical research. The Summer Program
in Cancer Research (SPCR) is a highly competitive, 10-week NIH/NCI-sponsored undergraduate
research program at MD Anderson focused on cancer genetics and epigenetics. It offers
paid, full-time, hands-on research experiences in faculty laboratories across MD Anderson’s
campuses. Selected students conduct hypothesis-driven projects, attend weekly lectures
and career development activities, participate in seminars and social events, and
present their work at a final scientific symposium and poster sessions. Participants
receive mentorship, access to advanced research resources, and may contribute to publishable

2026 Baylor College of Medicine SMART Program
The BCM Summer Undergraduate Research Training (SMART) Program provides frontier-level,
biomedical summer research projects for undergraduates in a supportive environment
with supplemental educational activities. Projects will span the spectrum of biomedical
science, including projects in bioengineering and computational biology. This program
will offer a compensation package of approximately $5,400 - either full salary or
a combination of salary and allocation for housing or travel. Eligible applicants
must be continuing students at a U.S. university with a minimum 3.0 GPA. First-year

2026 Mellon Research Scholars Program
Offered by OURMA, the Mellon Research Scholars program supports a cohort of students
who are highly motivated to conduct research and attend graduate school in the humanities.
Participants will engage in professional development activities in the spring and
fall semesters and conduct full-time research over the summer, receiving a stipend
totaling $5,000. Participants can also receive up to six points toward the Honors
in Co-Curricular Engagement transcript designation. Eligible applicants must be in

Research Experiences in Pediatric Prosthetics REU - University of Central Florida
The Research Experiences in Pediatric Prosthetics NSF REU Program at the University
of Central Florida offers experience in research focused on the application of pediatric
prosthetics through art and technology. Students will be assigned in multidisciplinary
pairs and work with previously established research teams. In addition to experiencing
and participating in this research, students will receive a $6,300 stipend, travel
funds, on-campus housing, and a meal plan. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals,

Summer Research Opportunities Program - Michigan State University
The Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at MSU provides undergraduate students
from across the U.S. with an 11-week research collective to advance their future studies
in STEM and social sciences disciplines. In this program, participants will participate
in intense research activities and other supplemental opportunities like presentations,
seminars, and workshops. To be eligible, applicants must have completed at least two
semesters of an undergraduate program, possess a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be a U.S. citizen.
