Event Check-In Device
Are you planning an upcoming event and want to track attendance or verify that guests are affiliated with the University of Houston? Cougar Card Services offers a convenient solution with event check-in device rentals available to UH departments and student groups and organizations.
Rental Options
- Short-Term Rentals: Ideal for single events.
- Annual Rental: Perfect for departments with recurring needs throughout the semester or academic year.
Devices can read both physical Cougar Cards and digital Cougar Cards via the UH Go app. This ensures that only students, faculty, staff, or approved guests can access your event.

Ease of Use
Setup is simple — just power on the device and tap twice to begin. The autoswipe feature allows for fast, uninterrupted scanning. The device is slim, includes a phone grip, and displays an “Approved” or “Disapproved” message instantly based on cardholder status.
The devices connect to Wi-Fi. If your location lacks UH Wi-Fi, no problem, Cougar Card Services also rents out a hotspot device to ensure connectivity.
Data & Reporting
The devices collect valuable data including:
- Date and time of check-in
- Names and PeopleSoft IDs
- Classification (student, faculty, staff)
- UH email
- Resident or commuter status
- Meal plan and RA status
Departments can request automated reports delivered daily, weekly, or monthly. Cougar Card Services is also working to expand available data fields.
The device rentals allow departments and student organizations to collect actionable, real-time data for their events and services without sacrificing quick access or entry.
