Fellowships & Scholarships
The Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies program offers a variety of fellowships and grants annually. Information on Student Fellowships, Scholarships, and Prizes can be found here.
Summer 2026 Applications Due: Friday, May 8, 2026 at 11:59pm
WGSS Faculty Summer Fellowships ($4,000)
Two fellowships are awarded in support of summer work on a research project having to do with women, gender, and/or sexuality.
Requirements:
- Must be a UH faculty member (TT, NTT or Lecturer).
- Preference may be given to those who have taught a course or courses cross-listed in Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies or to those who are members of the Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Faculty Affiliates.
Required Application Materials:
500 word maximum
A description of your summer research project that includes a sense of the length of the project (article, book, part thereof, etc.) as well as of your anticipated date of completion. Note if you would use this money to support travel to an archive or other research site, though travel is not required.
To apply, please combine all materials (excluding the reference letter) into a single
PDF and email it to wgss@uh.edu on or before the due date. Pleased have the author send their reference letter directly
to egregory@uh.edu.
Note: Funds will be paid directly to faculty member's account, as a summer fellowship for use as needed.
WGSS Faculty Travel Grant ($1,000)
Travel grants are awarded to help offset costs associated with travel to a professional meeting/conference that is relevant to the recipient's research or teaching in WGSS. Payable as reimbursement of receipts for expenses or for purchase of ticket before travel. Travel must occur after Sept. 1, 2026 and receive prior authorization.
Requirements:
- Must be a full-time UH faculty member (TT, NTT or Lecturer).
- Open to full time UH faculty who have taught a WGSS cross-listed course, members of the WGSS Faculty Affiliate group, or graduate students with primary teaching responsibility for a course listed under WGSS.
Required Application Materials:
A memo outlining the name, date and location of the conference and the role you will be playing there (paper presenter, panel chair, etc.)
Additionally, include a description of how participation in this conference will enhance your WGSS work.
