Copy and Print FAQ


Why should I use your department for my printing needs? 

Per MAPP 04.01.01, offset printing services provided by Copy and Print department do not require competitive binding at any dollar amount and do not require a purchasing requisition.

Additionally, offset printing services costing at least $15,000 ($3,500 on federal funds) must be submitted to Purchasing on a purchase requisition for competitive bidding or may be provided by Copy and Print department without competitive bids. 


What is the printing job order program?

Copy and Print has established partnerships with various printers through competitive bidding.  We have four preferred printers (three of the selected vendors are HUB partners) with agreed upon pricing that can service the university for any specialized printing needs.


Do you price match?

Yes, our prices are very competitive and are confident we can meet your budget.  We welcome the opportunity to price match as well.


How do I pay for my print job?

We handle all payments in partnership with our Business Office. Payment for your print jobs is processed by a journal entry. At the time of ordering, we require your cost center. For certain jobs, an invoice will be created and sent to the corresponding department for payment. We also accept payments via checks, money order, credit, or debit card.


How do I go about getting an estimate from you?

How long will it take for you to complete my order?

Every job is different. Some jobs can be produced in minutes while some may take several days to complete. Let us know when you need your job completed and we’ll let you know if it can be done. Will I have to get approval from UH Branding for my printing jobs?

No, we are your one-stop shop.  We manage your print job from basic concept, design, branding approval, and completion.  We work very closely with our colleagues in UH Branding to ensure your print job is brand compliant. 


How can I be sure you use the correct UH red on my print jobs? 

Our shop is color calibration certified on a yearly basis.  We want to always ensure we use UH red in compliance with branding standards.


Do you deliver on campus?

Yes, our practice is to deliver your print jobs once completed and based on your instructions. 


How do I pay for my print job?

What is the best file format for submitting a document for printing?

The Portable Document Format (PDF) is generally the preferred file format for submitting a document for printing as it works with virtually all professional printing and digital output devices. By design, a PDF file incorporates the information needed to maintain document consistency from system to system. Most other file formats such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Microsoft Word are easily converted to PDF format.


How do I submit my file for printing? 

You can send your files through email to cpd@uh.edu and/or for larger files you can upload them to our ftp site by clicking here, please contact us for a user name and password.


What are your hours?

Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are closed on weekends and during official university holidays.


Can I print with my own paper?

You can, however, it is not recommended. We have a variety of options of paper at our office you can select from.


Who should I contact to order some hats from Copy and Print Services?

To order some hats from Copy and Print Services, you should contact them at cpd@uh.edu. A representative will get back to you with any questions or concerns to create an accurate quote.


Can I print my dissertation?

Yes! We print the dissertation with 25% cotton paper. Please email cpd@uh.edu with the file and the number of copies you wish to print.


Do you keep promotional items in stock?

No, all promotional items are custom-made per order and are not kept in stock.


What is the turnaround time for promotional items?

The average turnaround time is 3-4 weeks from start to finish, depending on the item and vendor.


What is the minimum order quantity for promotional items?

Minimum order quantities vary by vendor and product. Please email cpd@uh.edu for specific details based on your selection.


Can I use any design on promotional items?

All designs must go through the university’s branding approval process to ensure compliance with UH brand standards.


How can I order stationery and where is the stationery order form?

To order stationery, complete the stationery order form and email it to cpd@uh.edu.


Are same-day services available? Can something be printed on the same day as it is ordered?

Same-day printing may be possible depending on the current volume of jobs in our queue. For a confirmed turnaround time, please email us at cpd@uh.edu, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.


How long does the print order take?

Print orders are typically completed within 7-10 business days after proof approval. For questions or special requests, please contact us at cpd@uh.edu.


Can I print personal orders?

Yes! To request a personal print job, please email cpd@uh.edu with the following details:

  • Item size
  • Quantity per item
  • Paper preference
  • PDF file of the item
  • Desired due date

We will respond with pricing and next steps.
